The team was conceived and named by Earl Curly Lambeau and George Whitney Calhoun at the Indian Packing Company where Curly Lambeau was employed.The equipment and uniforms of the team were paid for by the company in exchange for the team name, which has carried on till this day.

In 1919 Curley Lambeau and Calhoun put an advertisement in the local newspaper inviting those interested in playing football in the area to convene.A total of 18 players showed up and the team played it’s first game against a team from Menomonee.
