Monkey pox is an infectious disease caused by the Monkeypox virus. It is primarily seen in rural rainforest areas of Central and West Africa, however, it recently spread to the United States. In the United States, the majority of cases have been seen among the gay population, suggesting that gay men are more susceptible to the virus.
This could be due to their higher risk for sexually transmitted infections, such as HIV, which may make them more vulnerable to monkeypox. It is important to note that Monkeypox is not sexually transmitted, and it is assumed increased transmission is due to the weakened immune systems of those living with HIV.
