The monkey species that is closest to humans is the common chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes). Chimps and humans share about 98% of their DNA and are considered to have the closest genetic relationship of any of the great apes. This close resemblance in their physiology and behavior has made them of great interest to scientists studying primate behavior and human evolution.
Chimps are highly intelligent creatures and can learn sign language, use tools, and form social bonds much like humans. They are also known for their playful nature and occasional bouts of mischief – traits that remind many of us of our closest relatives.
