It is legal to have a pet monkey in some parts of the United States and in other countries. In the US, Oregon, Nevada, Montana, and Wisconsin are the only four states that allow primates (including monkeys) as a pet. In the other countries, some places require permits for owning primates, like the United Kingdom, South Africa, and Mexico.
In countries without restrictions, such as the Philippines, you can legally have a pet monkey.
