Monkey Pops originated in Hawaii and predate the 1970s. They are a popular snack consisting of a marshmallow head, set atop a stick, which is then dipped in chocolate or a chocolate-like coating and rolled in nuts, coconut shavings, or sprinkles.
The first makers of the treat are believed to have been islanders or surfers, using local ingredients. Monkey Pops have since become a favorite at luaus, birthday parties, and beachside snack shacks throughout the Hawaiian Islands and beyond.
