The first recorded human outbreak of monkeypox infection occurred in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 197 Since then, sporadic cases and outbreaks have continued to occur in Africa. Currently, most cases are found in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Central African Republic, and some other West African nations.
