It is legal to own a monkey in many states across the United States including Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Iowa, Mississippi, Montana, Nevada, North Dakota, South Dakota, Texas, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming. However, in some states obtaining a permit for monkey ownership is required, including Arizona, Oklahoma, New York and Georgia.
Local jurisdictions in some states may also have regulations around primate ownership.
