A Sea Monkey is a type of brine shrimp that was first marketed as a pet in the 1950’s. It is a ‘packaged pet’ because the Sea Monkey needs special salts and chemicals that are provided in the package.
The Sea Monkey eggs are dehydrated and remain dormant until they are added to water, at which point they hatch and become active. Sea Monkeys are often kept in water tanks and fed brine shrimp food. They reproduce quickly and can live for several months.
