Monkey app, an anonymous chat app launched in 2016, was forced to shut down in 2018 following growing pressure from authorities over its compliance with US laws. The app was popular amongst Generation Z users in the US as a platform to socialize, but it faced difficulty with regulations surrounding user data sharing and content monitoring practices.
Consequently, Monkey’s parent company, Weeby, was forced to shut the app down.
