edMonkey pox is a rare viral zoonotic disease caused by the Monkeypox virus. It is related to small pox, but is usually much milder.
Treatment of monkey pox is usually supportive and symptom based. Care may include medications to reduce fever and treat pain such as paracetamol, as well as antibiotics to reduce the risk of secondary bacterial infections. Vaccinating against small pox and avoiding contact with wild animals, particularly rodents, is also advised.
Other suggestions for treatment include bed rest, fluids and in more severe cases, hospitalization. The virus typically resolves within two to four weeks, however some cases may take longer.
As there is no one single effective treatment, it is best to seek medical care and advice for urgent and more severe cases of monkey pox.
