A Monkey Fist is a decorative knot used to produce a round knot at the end of a rope. To make a Monkey Fist, start with a length of rope around 30 inches long. Create an overhand knot at one end of the rope by making a loop and passing the end of the rope through it.
Next, make a series of four or five turns, wrapping the loop with the end of the rope. Pull the end of the rope tight to secure the wraps in place.
Stuff the center of the knot with something of your choice, such as marbles, coins or coins wrapped in tape, then make a final overhand knot and pull tight to secure the object inside. Finally, trim the end of the rope and you have your very own Monkey Fist!
