edMonkeypox typically lasts for about 14-21 days. Symptoms usually appear within 7-14 days after exposure and initially resemble those of the common cold.
After several days, the patient may develop raised bumps on their face, chest, and back, which fill with pus, before eventually scabbing over and falling off. These bumps can also develop on other body parts such as arms, legs, and groin. It is important to note that while monkeypox is similar to smallpox, it is usually less severe and there is no evidence of long term scarring, organ damage or mortality.
