Hey everyone! In case you didn’t know, today is Columbus Day. I don’t celebrate it, but I thought it would be fun to do a quick post about some of the exciting things about Christopher Columbus. I hope you all have a great day! 🙂
What is Columbus Day, and why do we celebrate it?
Columbus Day is a holiday that commemorates the day Christopher Columbus arrived in the Americas. It is celebrated on October 12th in many countries throughout the world. It is also a day to celebrate Italian-American heritage in the United States.
Some people believe that we should not celebrate Columbus Day because of the atrocities that Columbus and his men committed against the native peoples of the Americas. However, others believe it is important to remember Columbus’ accomplishments and celebrate Italian-American heritage.
What do you think? Should we continue to celebrate Columbus Day? Why or why not?
When is Columbus day in 2022?
Columbus Day is celebrated in the United States on the second Monday in October. In 2022, Columbus Day will be celebrated on October 10th.
Who was Christopher Columbus, and what did he do?
Christopher Columbus was an Italian explorer who sailed across the Atlantic Ocean in 1492 in an attempt to find a route to India. Instead, he landed in the Bahamas, part of the Spanish Empire.
Columbus’ discovery of the Americas led to the colonization of the Americas by Spain and other European countries. Columbus is also credited with introducing the potato and tobacco to Europe.
In recent years, some historians have criticized Columbus for his role in the enslavement and exploitation of Native Americans. However, many people continue to celebrate him as a heroic figure.
